  • Scanned the modules for codes – received P0017 (exhaust camshaft not plausible Bank 1). Following the diagnostic flow chart we checked the engine oil – was low over a quart. We topped the oil off. Cleared the code and ran the vehicle – on the second key cycle the code reset. We moved the exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoids from one bank to the other. Cleared the code and ran the engine – code reset. Attempted to relearn the camshaft/crankshaft correlation – will not allow. Recommend replacing the timing chains. Ok'd to proceed. After repairs we test drove the vehicle several times – ran properly and no codes set. .
  • Installed new timing chains and guides. Reassembled with new gaskets and seals. Refilled with fresh antifreeze and bled the cooling system. .

  • Scanned for codes – none stored. Test drove with the scan tool attached – no engine issues noted. We did find that when gradually slowing down from 60mph at about 50 we heard a whooing noise. Hoisted for inspection. Front tires are badly cupped. Inspected the front end we found play in both inner tie rod ends, pitman arm, and the idler arm. Believe the issue is in the steering. Recommend replacing the inner tie rods, pitman arm, and idler arm then performing an alignment. .

  • Hoisted for inspection. Verified both front axle output shaft seals are leaking on the transfer case. Checked fluid in the transfer case – was almost empty and has sludge built up in the bottom of the case. Filled with fresh fluid and test drove – transfer case is still making noise. Recommend replacing the transfer case. Ok'd to proceed. After repairs we test drove again – we get a bit of road noise but the transfer case is quiet. .
